Recent studies have proved that consuming wine in a moderate amount can benefit to a good health. That’s why most people are interested in wines and wine making process. Let’s discuss about this step by step.
The first step is to get the main constituent for wine, the grapes. A lot of care should be taken while cultivating the grapes. The taste of the wine depends on the type of the grapes which are used. The characteristic of the grapes rely on the place where they are grown, quality and climate of the place, flow of water to that area, the exposure to sunlight, pollution and population. Even after choosing the place and growing the grapes it’s necessary to quite often visit the vineyard every season. Personal care is the answer for the great taste of wine. It’s very difficult for Mass producers to give personal attention to the vineyard. Estate wine makers like Piattelli Wines stand out from the rest of our competitors when it comes to nurturing every grape that gets into wine-making.
The next step in the winemaking process is harvesting. Deciding when to harvest is very important and takes lot of experience to analyze the condition of grapes .If the grapes are ripped early the sugar content is less and it’s not enough for the alcohol conversion. If the grapes are ripped too late it can tend to be spoilt and the sugar contents may be less. The perfect grapes have the appropriate combination of sugar, acid and moisture.
Crushing the clusters of ripped grapes is the next process of winemaking. Initially check the clusters and remove if there are any bad clusters. Crushing is done either manually or with a machine. In manual process grapes are crushed by hands or foot in a big tub. In the mechanical process the grapes go into the de-stemmer and crushing takes place there. Most of the wineries prefer mechanical process because it saves lot of time, improves the quality, durability of wines and reduces the need of preservatives.
In this process the juice is fermented with wild yeast in air .Once fermentation begins it converts all sugar content to alcohol and it takes between 10 days to a month or more depending on the alcohol level, quality of the grapes and climate.
The final phase in the wine making process is aging. This step is done to improve the wine quality and enhance the taste of the wine. The aging period can be decided and monitored by the wine maker. The wine may be aged form several months to several years. Air is not allowed to enter the barrels during this process. The aged wine is then bottled and ready to be sold for wine lovers to enjoy its exquisite taste.
The work involved in the process of wine making is achieved only when a true wine lover enjoys the exceptional taste of this beverage.
